Make Mountainboarding a Sport

15/10/2014

Your details will be used to support our application to have mountainboarding recognised as a sport. Your information is safe with us. It will be stored electronically and securely, and we won’t send you spam or give your details to anyone else. Only ATBA-UK staff who need to as part of their job will see your details.

Who can help?

Anyone and everyone who has anything to do with mountainboarding. Whether you’re a regular rider or just ride occasionally in the summer, whether you’ve just started or are the parent of an eager young rider, we need you to show your support for making mountainboarding a sport.

Why should mountainboarding be recognised as a sport?

  • Mountainboarding has been part of the UK action sports scene for twenty years.
  • There is a thriving community of mountainboarders all over the UK, riding at all levels of ability.
  • The UK has one of the strongest competitive scenes in the world, featuring twelve national-level annual competitions across three disciplines.
  • The UK has produced some of the best mountainboarders in the world, including the current World Freestyle Champion and World BoarderX Champion.

What are the benefits of mountainboarding being recognised as a sport?

If mountainboarding was recognised as a sport it would be taken more seriously by big organisations. This could mean opportunities to apply for funding, more sponsorship for riders, and a higher profile for mountainboarding meaning more people get into it.

How can mountainboardng become recognised?

When mountainboarding meets the requirements we can apply to the Sports Councils of the UK for it to be recognised as a sport. There are lots of requirements, and we’re working on all of them, but the big one is being able to show that there are enough people participating regularly.

So, what do we need to make it happen?

The names and contact details of at least 2000 mountainboarders from all across the UK. That’s where you come in. If you aren’t already a member, give us your details and help us make mountainboarding a sport.
