We are proud to introduce a new member in the world famous VESC speed controller family! 

We gave it the name VESC HD.  It is the abbreviation for High Density, referring to the ultra compact design. The HD project started almost 2 years ago & we took our time to bring it to perfection. 

Certainly the Power to size ratio is the key feature of the TWIN VESC HD. Measuring just 100mm x 55mm x 18 mm the TWIN Motor capable VESC HD-60T is a true space saver!

The HD-60 range of Speed Controllers has even more to offer & is capable of hibernating... Your board can conserve power while not in use - reducing power consumption to just 20μA – less than the self-discharge rate of the batteries. Or with automatic power off, your VESC can switch itself off after a set amount of time. Kickstart or Roll to start allows you to wake up the unit, without the need of finding the switch to turn it of so giving the wheels a gentle push is all it takes. 

Compatible with power buttons that we offer, the HD can be ready to go with a single press / flick / kick!

In its development, due to their tendency to eventually blow up after a certain period, no Mosfet switches were used in this production. This saves on the additional costs of replacing them, & also adds to the longevity of the VESC HD. 

Produced as standard with an integrated NRF 52840 Chip for wireless connection, this eases initial setup & RT-Data acquisition while you can still use an external BLE dongle or Antenna if Signal Boosting is necessary. 

The TWIN HD-60 is a modular design, consisting of a twin logic stage & two separated power stages. Both channels operate as independent, redundant units, so that a damage on one channel does not take down the second channel. Also you will find all ports twice, giving you more freedom to interconnect secondary devices & it certainly is adding to the redundancy effect. 

The modular design makes the device very repairable if electronics get damaged. Mishaps happen & we want you to get your device up & running again quick & without buying an entire new unit. Spare PCBs will be available at a reasonable price tag going forwards.

As expected, this mew VESC features THREE PHASE SHUNTS & adjustable VOLTAGE FILTERS - detecting any motor attached more precisely and reliably than ever before. Consequently all kinds of motors now run as smooth as butter & react PERFECTLY LINEAR to throttle input commands. 

The HD is ASS Ready. Ass stands for Advanced Sensor less Startup, which basically means full torque from 0 RPM. ASS is a future SW/HW feature, not to be confused with HFI. We want you to know that the device is already prepared for the future! 

You’ll also find a new IMU chip fitted - featuring a gyroscope & accelerometers... The VESC  knows its 3D orientation position in space & 3 axis acceleration values....

UAVCAN has been added to the VESC  firmware allowing you to interact with commonly used flight controllers like the PIXHAWK ®* devices. The HD is perfect for bigger drones & other UAVs!

VESC-Tool is now available as an Android™ compatible App, allowing you to configure your VESC or VESC array with only a few clicks. User specific PROFILES will let you change in between different setups with a single tap on the fly.

Available for a SINGLE Motor'd device or a TWIN Motor'd device, the HD in the name 'HD-60' stands for High Density, whilst the 60 refers to the 60volts the speed controller is rated too. 60 volts is the Max voltage including any voltage spikes so the HD-60 line of products are perfect for 12S power, no more.

Our goal from the start was to create the most powerful VESC yet but produced in the absolute smallest footprint possible... & arriving to you with a thickness measurement of just 18.5mm on both the SINGLE or the TWIN boards (thats less than the width of a 18650 cell), the 55 x 55mm square dimensions for the Single HD-60 & just 101 x 55mm for the TWIN HD-60 we have certainly achieved what we set out to acomplish as these  HD Speed controllers are by far the smallest most powerwerful VESC Speed controllers ever! 

In all the tests we have put the HD through, the HD performance has exceded our expectations in every instance. & so finally after 15 months of testing & tweaking to suit our high demands, we feel confident that now the right time to release the new VESC HD into the wild....

So the most important aspect of the HD line of products is certainly the size to power ratio, (there will be more Voltage rated HD models to come out later) and the small size is without doubt the key feature of both the SINGLE or TWIN HD-60 VESC.  The power a HD-60 can output on each channel nearly matches the power output of its slightly bigger brother, the VESC 6 MKV, while the price tag for a TWIN HD-60 is lower than that of two VESC 6 MKV. That price difference alone is a bonus for many users. VESC 6 compares to HD like Full Frame to APS-C sensors on DSLRs. While the VESC 6 is still king of control, featuring 3x high side shunts, the HD products delivers a very good performance at a more affordable price tag. Both the HD-60 & VESC6 MKV have their place in the market & therefore the HD is not replacing the VESC 6  but an addition in our product portfolio....

Another big advantage is the modular concept. The TWIN HD consists of three PCBs, each available separately. Two power stages & one logic board form a complete unit. If a mishap happens, (lets face it they do happen) then you should be able to fix the unit for a few bucks. We will do our best to provide very affordable replacement PCBs. We want you to profit from this aspect & we want to minimize our waste footprint. The assembly is super simple, no special skills needed!  On top of that, the HD range of products is very redundant, each part & port exists twice. 

Even if you kill a port, there is a second one you can use. Two COMM ports, two CAN ports, two SWD ports, two PPM ports, two USB ports. The entire logic basically exists twice. If one side goes down, the other side would still work just fine. A TWIN HD performs like two totally separated units just assembled as 1. 

What else? Super powerful Wireless NRF52840 chips are fitted as standard, (The NRF Chip insied your VESC can be boosted or re-positioned to a stonger signal point by using a Externally Mounted ARIAL style or PCB Style Antenna) mounted NRF antennawhilst hibernation (power switch without Mosfets), roll to start, auto power off, self balance IMU, built in XT60 power connectors are all as standard.

Different voltage ratings will become available (60v, 75v & fingers crossed also 100v). Twin & single units will be available in all. A VESC HD is a bit like a simple Lego set. All versions share the same swappable power stage for your convince just rated at different voltage for optimisation.

ASS = Advanced Sensorless Startup which means its possible to go directly to Full Torque power from 0 RPM :-)
